Little Mr. Innocent

Don't let the cute face fool you. The weather has been nasty, and Hobie has devised a new tactic to return home ASAP. Now, after the usual routine at the dog park, any attempts to continue on a longer walk are met with resistance. Instead of trotting on like any normal dog, Hobie will now stop walking and sit, with the leash fully extended. I sound ridiculous as I make endless promises to go check out the ducks, all in an attempt to get Hobie to budge. I've pulled him along, dragging him mercilessly, but in the end, he always wins.

Stubborn dog. But when he looks like this, I always give in.

Did you get a haircut?

Hobie got a haircut this weekend! He had been getting pretty hairy, but it always takes a little while to get an appointment at a groomer.

This is Hobie sleeping in our bed one lazy afternoon.

Yes, he could really use a haircut! We went to Kate's Cat and Dog Salon again. The groomer did a great job.

The weird thing is that even though the groomer told Gladys he would call us when Hobie was done, nobody called. This is the third time this has happened, and it's getting a little annoying. You'd think that for $55 they could spend a minute on the phone letting us know when Hobie is done. We're happy with the result though, so we'll probably go back.

His eyebrows were perhaps a little long, but the rest of him was great. I took him to Alamo Square.

I guess Hobie must have picked something up from the cows when we went to Bolinas Ridge, because he's been grazing a lot lately. Here's Hobie eating grass:

When Hobie chills during the day, he likes to be in the sun. After he had gotten his haircut, a chair was blocking his access to the sun. That, however, is no match for a Schnauzer. Hobie simply jumped up into the chair so he could get as much warmth as possible from the sun. I've never seen him jump into this chair before, so it makes me wonder what else he does when we're not watching him.

Hobie does seem happy with his new haircut, though. He does seem a lot colder, and has been spending more time laying next to whatever he can find that's warm.

Sleeping on ottoman

I was doing some work when I noticed Hobie sleeping on an Ikea ottoman we have. I've never seen him on it before, but he looked pretty comfortable on it.

There's not a lot of room for about 28 pounds of Miniature Schnauzer on the ottoman, though. It looks a little cramped.

I suppose this is how he spends his days...

It's been three months since Hobie went to the groomer's. Gladys wanted to try a new groomers, so we went to VIP Grooming in Noe Valley.

When Hobie's fur gets long he can get pretty shaggy. This is how he looked late February at a local park.

Sheep dog

Fortunately, he didn't look like that this morning when we took him for his 8 a.m. appointment.

Hobie before

We told the people there that he wasn't very sociable, so they put him in a kennel. There were two or three dogs just walking around there. Hobie got a little worried, so he started barking. He kept barking for several minutes after we left the groomer's, we could hear him a block away.

Anyways, we picked him up, and he looked much better.

Hobie is now groomed!

He was so happy to see us that he could barely stand still. He just kept spinning around and around and around.

Stuffed-dog look

Some days, he looks like a stuffed animal. Hobie catches the last rays at Golden Gate Park.

The dogs days of summer

Well, summer isn't here yet, but I'm sure he'll be spending many days like this:
